Lumecca Intense Pulsed Light Therapy
Lumecca intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy is a comprehensive way to treat and manage dry eye symptoms caused by meibomian gland dysfunction. Lumecca IPL targets the underlying inflammatory processes that can lead or contribute to Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD).
During the treatment, we place the Lumecca IPL device over your eyelids where it will deliver gentle pulsations of light energy. The skin on your eyelids absorbs this energy, transforming it into heat, which then loosens and melts away blockages in your eyelids causing dry eye symptoms.
You might experience a slight tingling sensation during your treatment, and you might develop some slight redness in the areas you treat, but this is normal to the process and not a cause for concern.
You could experience results immediately after your appointment, but we typically recommend multiple treatment sessions to help maintain your eye comfort.
Lumecca IPL is also effective for treating a range of aesthetic concerns like age spots, sun damage, rosacea, and varicose veins. Conditions like blepharitis (eyelid inflammation) and demodex mites can also increase the risk of dry eye. In these situations, our team can recommend Zocular Eyelid System Treatment (ZEST) to help clean and debride your eyelids so you can get back to enjoying your eye comfort.
We apply the ZEST gel to the margins of your eyelid and work it into a lather to help deep clean your eyelids. This deep clean helps to remove bacteria or debris that can cause your dry eye symptoms.
